To signal the end of the chartering season in Antigua, captain and crews would challenge one another to race down to Guadeloupe. This unofficial race led to the birth of Antigua Sailing Week in 1967, which celebrated its 50th anniversary only last year. Inevitably, over the years the classics were steadily being outnumbered, as well as outmanoeuvred,  by the more modern and speedier yachts. So, in 1987, over a few glasses of rum, Captain Uli Pruesse, and Kenny Coombs, along with several other classic skippers, formed what we now know as the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta. In 1996, the late Kenny Coombs was also responsible for helping to develop the Spirit of Tradition class, which has now been embraced all over the world. It’s purpose was to celebrate and embrace the beauty and splendour of a past era. Classic lines, glimmering varnish, and exquisite workmanship, all the things that makes a classic yacht what it is today.

With the warm Caribbean sun, amazing turquoise waters, and incredible scenery, there isn’t much need for convincing. This is certainly one regatta you’ll want to make sure that cross off your bucket list.

Crewed Motor Yachts for Charter

There are numerous luxury motor yachts available for charter and our job as yacht brokers is trying to find the one that’s the most suitable for our client. We must consider the number of guests involved, the location that they want to cruise in, and the facilities that they require aboard, to ensure that they are getting exactly what they want. The Antigua Yacht Charter Meeting, which took place in December 2017, was a great opportunity to have personal tours of these vessels, meet the captain and crew, as well as to catalogue all their individual facilities. I’ve chosen three very different motor yachts that are all available to charter to give you an insight as to what’s on offer.

Lucky Lady is a 205.25 feet motor yacht, built in 2002 and refitted in 2012. We were given a warm welcome aboard by stewardess Chloe, who demonstrated her extensive knowledge of the boat throughout the tour, pointing out its many features and drawing our attention to the changes that have taken place under the current owners.

LL wine cabinet

The current owners are wine lovers and had this magnificent wine cabinet installed.

Despite the luxurious décor, the yacht has a warm and welcoming feeling, and is somewhere that you could easily find yourself relaxing. The rooms are lined with generous windows that will ensure that you won’t miss any of the stunning scenery as you cruise along.

Enjoy the great views while dining

For some of our clients, privacy is of paramount importance. With a whole deck dedicated to the owner’s suite, patrons favoring their privacy can be assured of plenty of space. The master cabin is substantial, the his and her bathroom spacious, and with a sizable office and private terrace, Lucky Lady is truly unique.

Lucky Lady has three additional doubles, plus a twin, accommodating up to 10 guests at a time. Each of the cabins are roomy and comfortable, and there are special additions to ensure that any younger guests are kept entertained. She has a crew of 16.

The sun deck

Lucky Lady has a substantial sun deck, where you can enjoy alfresco dining, relish the jacuzzi with it’s waterfall, or practice your golf swing with the retractable golf tee. The golf balls are bio-degradable and contained fish food! There are numerous areas for sunbathing, and you can even enjoy watching a film under the stars with the outdoor cinema. This area is somewhere you can truly relax and with its own bar you can be sure that a cocktail is not far away!

Spending your time surrounded by beautiful turquoise seas, a great way to cool off is to explore the stunning reefs below, and be amazed by the numerous multi-coloured fish and turtles you are bound to encounter. There is scuba diving gear available, as well as a compressor, and for those who aren’t qualified, there is also snorkeling equipment. For those thrill seekers, there are numerous activities to keep you entertained. Try wake boarding, water skiing, or blast off into the waves on one of the two wave runners available. For a more relaxing water experience try the paddle boards, or assist the chef by catching dinner using the fishing equipment on board.

Chartering your own boat gives you the freedom to stop wherever you wish. Spot a beach that looks inviting, then ask the captain to drop the anchor and the crew will set up all the facilities you want ashore. Table and chairs, sun lounges and parasols, even take the BBQ ashore and have lunch on the beach. The crew will bring ashore all the recreational toys to ensure that everyone has a great time.

Lucky Lady is a spectacular motor yacht, with a cruising speed of 12 knots, reaching a top speed of 15 knots. She is available to charter in the Mediterranean in the summer and the Caribbean in the winter. With suggested itineraries available, or customise your own, you can be sure that the crew will be on hand to offer you advice and recommendations to ensure your charter is truly memorable.
